Gabi Church

Gabi Church of Christ

Gabi church collapsed during Typhoon Odette, while the Dolorzo family was sheltering inside of it in their vehicle.  Roland Dolorzo, the preacher at Gabi and patriarch of the family, lost his life as a result of the collapse.  His wife, children, and grandchildren were trapped in the rubble for several hours.  Following their rescue and recovery, Roland's family, has continued to work alongside the new minister at Gabi and keep Roland's legacy of humble service alive.  The picture on the left shows the church collapsed on the Dolorzo's vehicle.  The picture on the right is the newly rebuilt Gabi Church of Christ.  Pictured below is the Dolorzo family.

Session Hall/Church

The session hall and church both located on the camp property were destroyed by the typhoon.  The session hall is a key part of our summer camp program - it is used for worship services, classes, recreation, and in general as an area to escape rain and the extreme heat of the summer sun.  The church building as well is an important meeting place for Sunday services, weekly Bible study, VBS, and community fellowship.  Because of the importance of each of these buildings, we decided that our first efforts towards re-construction needed to be focused on a multi-purpose building that could meet  all of the needs listed above.  In mid 2022, construction began on an open air chapel/session hall that will be used by the camp and Heir Christian Church.  We are working towards completing it before the start of our 2023 summer camp programs.

Lamp Christian Church
Kazigo, Uganda, Africa

In the summer of 2022, a local church contacted us about partnering with them to raise support to purchase bricks needed to build Lamp Christian Church in Kazigo.  Through funds raised at Highland Church of Christ VBS and Oblong First Christian Church VBS, Heir was able to send support to aid in the construction of this church.  This was the first church build outside of the Philippines that we have been blessed to be apart of!

Sheisa's Testimony

Hello Brothers and Sister in Christ, I’m Sheisa from Bohol, Philippines, the 2nd daughter of late Ptr. Roland Dolorzo. I am a daughter, a wife and a mother of two daughters. I want to tell a short story about what happen to my life and to tell how glorious God is. Typhoon Odette did a big changes in our lives. We lost our father… I thought I can’t survive during that tragic situation. During the typhoon because of the strong winds we evacuated to our multicab from our house because our house is not so strong. So we’re inside the multicab and the unexpected tragedy happened to us. The church building that we parked under fell in on us trapping us for 7 hours in the van. That 7 hours is the darkest moment of our life. The cry of my 4 month old baby and 2 years old daughter gave me a heavy heart. And the voice of my Mother, sisters, brother and husband gave me strength to stay awake. But I can feel I was losing blood. I felt very thirsty and hopeless because I know that there is no rescuer who can come because of the trees blocking the road. I prayed to God during that time. My prayer, “Dear God, it is okay if I lose my life but, please spare the life of my family.” The longest time that we’re under the broken church building. We’re still able to praise God while waiting for rescue. We sing songs of praise and pray minute by minute. God is so amazing, He sent people to help us. Our neighbours did their very best to help us. What happened to us is a great reminder to us how powerful God is. He is the one who knows when and where our life will end, and He is also in control of our life to still have purpose in this world, He will save us. What a gracious God, to God be the Glory. Losing our father is very painful to us but thankfully God uses people who inspired us. You all are one of them who gives me strenth and encouragement. Because of your love, support, care and prayers I was able to stand again. You also gave me a motivation to move forward. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks, and the first 6 days in hospital the Doctors kept me in a room while my wounds are still open, and fast for a week. That was the 50/50 life experience. During that day many of my friend gave their encouragments to me and also sent their support in financial matter. One of them is the McCain family. I am very much greatful for your kind heart. Every time I think about your goodness, I could cry because even thuogh we are far but still your love and concern for us is very near. God uses you all for helping us. And I was encouraged by what you have shown to us. Thank you so much. My family has taken on a strong role helping our new Pastor and Pastor’s wife. God has been using our gifts to help the church grow. In Joshua 24:15 “ As for me and my house we will serve the lord. This is one of Papa’s favourite verses. To God be all the Glory.
